Hajj 2015

Hajj 2015

Musa, it is wonderful to hear you are taking an interest, being involved and sharing your ideas and feelings while we make connections between home school and your wider community. These actions show you are continuing to develop the positive learning dispositions of courage, curiosity, trust and confidence. These are a focus for you as we are aware you do not attend many days. If you are feeling a sense of belonging and well-being you will be more inclined to take an interest and be involved which will further develop these dispositions.

I will continue to support these by offering activities that meet your ever changing interests. I observed you enjoying the physical aspects of Hajj and will bring more interesting physical activities in to the daily routines. During these planned experiences I will  focus on using a wide range of vocabulary and having you in small groups to encourage an AKO environment where your language is scaffolded and meaningful friendships developed. - T. Islamic Progress - March

Musa had already memorized Surah Faatiha and has now memorized Surah Ikhlaas which is wonderful.
Below is a brief summary of this progress, things highlighted in yellow indicate pronunciation that needs to be worked on as the sounds are unique to the Arabic language and not your child's languages(s):

     * Surah Ikhlaas - very good understanding, pronunciation is great

    * Surah Faatiha - excellent understanding, pronunciation correct.

     * Names of Allah: Ar-Rahman, Ar-Rahim, Al-Malik, Al-Quddus, As-Sakan, Al-Numin, Al-Muhaymin, Al-Aziz

Over the two week holiday the children have been focusing on Surah Naas as well as the names of Allah: Al-Musawwir, Al-Ghaffar, Al-Qahhar, and Al-Wahhab.

Next steps:
When Musa returns we will be moving on from Surah Naas to Surah Kawthar and focusing on the above names as well as an addition four: Al-Jabbar, Al-Mutakabbir, Al-Khaliq and Al-bari'.
We will continue supporting the highlighted pronunciation as well as revisiting learnt Surahs and names to support long-term memorization.

How can you support Musa's progress at home?
1) Please revise Surah Ikhlass regularly as was newly memorized for Musa
2) Go over what he has missed - Surah Naas and names: Al-Musawwir, Al-Ghaffar, Al-Qahhar and Al-Wahhab.
3) Share with us what Musa already knows so we can continue to challenge him rather then allow him to grow bored if some material is already familiar.
